FFVA?
Final Fantasy V Advance preview: I didn't even know that they were releaseing (re-releasing?) an updated version of FFV! I think I'll have to pick this up just to check out the new classes.

It's Geek Time
Anyone else play Guild Wars [guildwars.com]? For the life of me I can't get past the Sanctum Cay mission using an E/N/20. I think I'll try to run it, but what skills should I use? I'm thinking protect and life steal. This weekend is also Green Drop Weekend for Factions, can't wait!

Old School Gaming
Over at digg.com I found a story [digg.com] about old school gaming and new technology. It was quite thought provacative considering I'm part of the generation directly addressed by this story, I have the Zelda memories and remembrances of some friends and me actually crowding around Mike Tyson's Punch Out.
What did I get out of this? In the coming years we'll see a throwback to classic gaming with indy games, while being able to take advantage of newer technologies, will opt to design and implement their games utilizing older games as templates. For example. the Final Fantasy series 1-6 was some of the best gaming I have ever experienced. I see some of the indy games today that try and duplicate the FF feel of things, but I think they get too involved with new technologies, i.e. isometric tiling, networked gaming, etc.

Final Final Final (really) Fantasy
So, Square-Enix released a press announcement [square-enix.com] on the 25th of April letting people know what they were "announcing" for E3. This is kind of frustrating because they had announced the release of Kingdom Hearts 2 last year and I thought they gave a release date of Fall 2005, but in their press release they said that they weren't giving a release date during E3. Anyone else confused?
Also, it looks like their releasing another Final Fantasy for the PS2 dubbed Final Fantasy XII. Don't know much about this one. And a complete surprise (at least to me) was the announcement of Dirge Of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII. From the text it looks like another PS2 title taking off from the original PlayStation title. I remember playing FFVII for hours on end, I think it was my first multi-disc RPG. Ah memories...
Anyway, I'll keep my eyes open for more info. Hopefully these announcements won't lead to a long release cycle and we'll get some great games for the '05 holiday season.
